In the year that the Giffard West Cup competition takes place again, Viriathus Drinks has teamed up with Giffard for two “The Art of Mixing” masterclasses.
The famous mint liqueur
Giffard originates from the chemist Émile Giffard, who with his curiosity for mint created a mint liqueur. From this invention he transformed his pharmacy into a distillery. Since then, the next five generations have grown their business by increasing the number of flavors available.
In this sense and guaranteeing the authentic flavor of the chosen fruits and plants they use Maceration. This flavor extraction process corresponds to macerating the fruit in alcohol for 48 hours to 3 months. The result of this process is fundamental for the manufacture of liqueur.
Liqueur, in turn, is the essential ingredient of cocktails.
Matteo Mosetti, Giffard’s ambassador
The masterclass “The Art of Mixing” will be given by Matteo Mosetti. Brand ambassador in Europe and the Middle East as well as creator of several cocktails whose recipes you can find on our site.
Matteo Mosetti became a brand ambassador after he placed second in the 2019 Giffard West Cup. He entered the competition representing the Nocturnal Animals bar in Birmingham, England.
This competition consists of two rounds. In the first “Less is more” contestants must create a cocktail with only two main ingredients. One of them having the condition of being a Giffard liqueur. The goal was to deliver a simple and tasty cocktail to show the true art of mixing drinks. In the second round “Born to Refresh” the contestants are challenged to make a “long drink”. The drink has to include at least 20ml of Giffard’s liqueur “Menthe Pastille”.
Thus, a “Brasilian Highball” in the first and an “1885 Breeze” in the second round allowed Matteo Mosetti to win second place.
