Do you miss those nights that start in a good bar and end up having breakfast by the sea?
Without a doubt, Portugal reserves good surprises. We have tips for where to go when we are allowed to unwind, at night. For those who like animation and love classic cocktails, it’s easy to find fun and bars in this versatile country!
For those who appreciate a good bar with wilder cocktails and snacks, we can’t fail to mention the best restaurants and bars from North to South of the country. These are some of our suggestions to enjoy the best that Portugal has to offer, when we can go out, with all possible hygiene and safety.
If you are in the North, you can enjoy Inala Porto. It’s tropical, unexpected and wild. These are the three words that best describe it, with an environment inspired by the forest. Inala will leave you open-mouthed with its desserts and tropical foods. Their cocktails are only for Tarzans who like to venture out with different but delicious flavors. For many, only Gin & Tonic is valid, but if you prefer something more “soft” opt for Sangria of Passion Fruit, which is divine.
Still in Porto, you can enjoy and take a trip back in time with Golden Oldie Bar. With its own cocktails, such as Enchantement and Audacity, the Golden Oldie Bar is the ideal bar to go back to the 1920’s. With authentic period food like Un rêve à Picorer. With an intimate and refined atmosphere, cozy and classy with Charleston, Foxtrot and Jazz music. Golden Oldie is in the center of Porto, a journey through time that you will hardly forget.
In Guimarães, still in the North of Portugal, you can find a restaurant that will make you sin – Résvés Restaurante. It has traditional Portuguese food, but adds its je ne sais quoi to the recipe. Their desserts are divine and their terrace is perfect for enjoying a Caipirinha or even a Daiquiri Pineapple.
In the center of Portugal, in Foz do Arelho, you can find Cais da Praia. With a breathtaking view of the Óbidos lagoon, it’s the perfect place to enjoy not only the food, but also the view and the cocktails. Here you can enjoy dishes such as Bacalhau à Cais da Praia. Their Mojitos are the ideal drink to enjoy by the sea. Here you can consume the culture and extract the freshness of the ingredients.
In Cascais, you have the opportunity to visit the Restaurante & Bar Hífen. A space that has live music on weekends and a different menu, always able to enjoy the best that Portugal has to offer. It’s located in the bay of Cascais, overlooking the sea, and was the Traveler’s Choice in 2020. Its Gins are from laughing and crying for more and its environment is calm, but with its cool and funky air.
Near the Hífen, is Oficina das Artes. It’s a welcoming space, ideal for those who want a good hamburger or enjoy their Pina Coladas. If you feel like going to Puerto Rico or trying a signature drink, you can always try the Oficina, which is a cocktail that is too hot to talk about.
Further south, in the Algarve, Julia’s Restaurante & Beach Bar is the original beach restaurant, and is located in Praia do Garrão. Their house cocktails are their specialty, like Tequila Sunrise. Perfect for drinking and waiting for the sunrise. Julia’s is well known and very loved, your visit is not guaranteed without a seeing her bar!
Still in the Algarve, in Lagos, take the opportunity to get to know Artesão. A restaurant with incredible food, unique cocktails and a phenomenal cafe. Their themed nights are ideal for trying different foods, from burritos to sushi. You can enjoy your brownies right away for breakfast or your signature cocktails on a well spent night.
If you are passing through Vale do Lobo, visit The Lounge – Cocktail and shisha bar. It’s wild, as the name implies, and the DJ nights rock. But The Lounge doesn’t stop there and you can enjoy the sunset with your signature G&T. Do you dare?
On Madeira Island you can find the Three House Hotel. It’s located in Funchal, at the top of a building with more than half a century of history, where creativity dictates the rules. Whether for signature cocktails, timeless classics, specialty coffee or one of Executive Chef Mauricio Faria’s gastronomic creations.
