Viriathus Drinks presents a great brand: Giffard.

 

Giffard – A Quality Brand

First of all, the Giffard story began one hot summer in 1885. Emile Giffard is a pharmacist in Angers, in the Loire Valley. Besides being a pharmacist, he was also an inventor, a curious and fine gourmet, who researched the digestive and refreshing virtues of mint.  In this sense, he perfected a white mint liqueur, transparent, pure, refined, that had the objective of relieving the Grand Hotel’s clients from the great heat.

Success was immediate, and so Emile transformed his pharmacy into a distillery and named the liqueur Menthe-Pastilhe.  The Giffard company, five generations later, produces around the Menthe-Pastilhe, Fruit Creams, Liqueurs, Guicnolets and Syrups, respecting the quality.

 

Plants, Fruits – Quality assurance

In addition, all the products used for the large drinks are purchased primarily in the region itself. They use a traditional method that respects the authentic flavor because, in order to extract the aromas, the fruit is macerated in alcohol for 48 hours to three months. Afterwards, everything depends on the time needed between the fruit and the alcohol. The infusion obtained is the essential base for making the liqueur.

  • There are several manufacturing secrets:
    Dosage;
    Assembly;
    Mixing;
    Filtration;
    Control;
    Quality Requirements;

Thus, the laboratory operates all year round to ensure that there is quality and that each production is tasted before being bottled.

Liqueur is the essential ingredient that gives the cocktails their flavor.

 

Giffard West Cup 2022

After two years without being organized the Giffard West Cup competition due to the pandemic, the great competition returned this year. On June 28th, at the Monkey Mash at noon took place the big event where music and bartending were more together than ever. Dynamic and appealing, people could see the creation of cocktails.

The theme of the competition was “LISTEN TO THE FLAVOURS” and as rules:

  • Create an original cocktail inspired by music;
  • Liqueur Matter: use Giffard liqueurs in at least 50% of the alcoholic volume of the cocktail.

The competition had two phases: regional semi-finals and a national final, and the first place went to represent Portugal in the GWC finals in Angers, France.

Prize of the GWC International Competition: Tour in three bars as a guest bartender in a country of the winner’s choice. The prize of the regional competition, was divided by three classifications:

1st Classified: Trip to Athenas Bar Show, in November + Representation of Portugal in the international competition;

2nd place – Weekend in a Portuguese city with an exclusive bartending and culinary experience all expenses paid;

3rd Runner Up – Complete Giffard range, which includes 10 bottles of liquor, apron and cocktail kit.
